Talk Title: Inference in Mathematics
Mathematics is in some key respects different from the sciences, most obviously in not being a causal domain. Professor Paseau will describe some features of mathematical inference that any fully general theory of inference must take into account.
Alexander Paseau
Alex Paseau is Professor of Mathematical Philosophy at Oxford. He was educated at Cambridge, Oxford and Princeton. His main research areas are logic and the philosophy of mathematics, with forays into metaphysics, epistemology and the philosophy of religion. He has published many research articles and reviews in philosophy and logic, edited two volumes, and written several books. He has served as Associate Editor of the journal Mind, and held visiting appointments in Athens, London, Paris and Sydney.
